SHAWN EDWARDS SAYS:
Xzibit with
David
Duchovny
I couldn't even remember what happened in the first movie which was based on the popular TV was
hardly a pleasant experience. Obviously neither was making this movie. I heard about fighting
between creator Chris Carter and the studio. It was also well publicized that there were creative
differences between the two, and it shows in this sleepy disjointed film. David Dochovny is clearly
sleep walking through his scenes and apparently took this gig to earn an easy paycheck. Poor
Gillian Anderson seems to be taking the proceedings seriously but just doesn't have much of a
script to work with.
The happiest person on the set had to be Xzibit. The rapper turned TV host has been far more
successful pimpin' rides than anything he has ever done on the mic. However, acting is an ill-
advised move. “X-Files” isn't Xzibit's first movie but you couldn't tell that from his lethargic acting. At
least he committed himself to the role and cut his braids. There aren't too many FBI agents rockin'
corn rows. Nonetheless, Xzibit is so wooden he makes Pinocchio look real. And where did he learn
to act? At the Ice Cube school of acting? Seriously, Xzibit makes Busta Rhymes seem tolerable.
Well, maybe not. He's not quite that bad but he's close.
Xzibit's lack of acting skills is the least of the movie's problems. It's slow, uninteresting and far less
superior to something you can catch late at night on basic cable. You can file “X-Files: I Want to
Believe” under “unwatchable.” This is a movie seriously in need of being pimped.
